I. Let’s Review

A. Six Biblical Statements Describing Hell

1. Hell is neglected

2. Hell is necessary

3. Hell is horrible

4. Hell is very close

5. Hell is crowded

6. Hell is avoidable

II. Our Passage: Six Additional Truths about Hell

1. Hell is elemental.

(Hebrews 6:1-2)

A. Every person is destined for eternity in one of two places.

(Mark 12:30-31)

B. In our love and appreciation to God by bringing into focus what we actually deserve for our sins.

( Luke 7:44-48)

2. Hell is a place of everlasting punishment.

(Matt. 25:41-46)

A. Everlasting fire.

(Matt 25:41)

B. Everlasting torment and suffering.

(Isa 33:14, 2 Th.1:9)

3. Hell is earned and deserved.

(Rom 3:9-18, 23; Rom 6:23)

A. Every time we sin we serve ourselves and not God.

B. God’s holiness is offended by our sin and God’s justice demands payment.

( Ex 20:1-2)

C. Our own sin blinds us to our own sinfulness. We have a tendency to minimize or rationalize our sin.

4. Hell is solitary

(Luke 13:24-28)

A. Those in hell are completely removed from the presence of God and anything

pleasant and good.

(James 1:17 Ps 16:11)

B. In hell we are completely isolated from all joy.

(Rev 14:10)

5. Hell is disgraceful.

(Daniel 12:1-2)

A. Hell is a place of endless shame and disgrace. Everything you have done is uncovered in front of everyone.

6. Hell was experienced on the cross.

(Mark 15:33-37; Rev 14:9-11)

A. God’s judgment and wrath of sin came crashing down on Jesus.

B. The only time God ever turns His back on His Son occurs at the cross.

Our Application

(John 3:16-17)

Let’s never forget that Jesus Christ experienced hell and wrath on the cross so that we wouldn’t have to.

Jesus’ substitution on the cross for us is what enables us to walk into the presence of God; accepted, forgiven and restored.
